Chapter 6, Amoeba
However, Lin did not take one thing into consideration
A very vivid word
The green cells showed no signs of evasion; they were easily captured by the tentacles, which engulfed the green cells entirely as if the cells were being phagocytized. The engulfed green cells were slowly transported along the tentacles into the center of the amoeba's body
Lin felt puzzled once again. Why is it that this cell, which possesses vision, cannot divide to produce another cell with vision? The cells divided by the observer remain merely the most basic ordinary cells.
Although they do not pose any threat to Lin, what makes Lin feel anxious is that the enormous amoeba is actually moving towards this direction along with those floating green cells
At this moment, the conical cells have approached the amoeba, piercing its outer membrane with their sharp, serrated conical spikes, and then they begin to rotate.
Lin realized that her actions of attacking seemed to be misguided. Even if they could harm the opponent, it was still unlikely to strike something that was more than two thousand times larger than herself
Thus, Lin decided to swallow this enormous food completely, so its colony should number in the thousands, no, perhaps it could even reach over a hundred million
The number of acidifiers has reached as many as 97, and Lin's confidence is also exceedingly ample
However, some cone cells, equipped with powerful serrated cutting edges, can even drill their way out and escape after being swallowed.
Under Lin's control, the acid injectors rushed forward one after another. At this moment, it seemed that the amoeba also sensed that something happened. As it approached, it accelerated its speed
Is it to once again face the boundless world of water, or to continue to remain in place and indulge excessively?
Of course, we should continue eating. Why leave? If we leave, there are too many uncertainties, and Lin does not want to take the risk
There are many green cells drifting by, and the amoeba only captured a portion of them, while a large number of green cells continued to drift towards Lin's cell cluster
Face it head-on
Lin had no particular thoughts about this amoeba, as its size was simply too large; approximately one thousand of Lin's cells piled together would not even equal half of its size, which led Lin to abandon any plans to attack.
At the onset of digestion, there is pain, but once digestion is complete, Lin feels nothing at all
Those small entities are approximately the same size as Lin's cells, but they are oval-shaped and exhibit a green color. These are likely a type of cell as well
The amoeba sensed the approach of the acid injector and launched a preemptive strike. It split a large, seemingly soft part of its body above into countless small tentacles, reaching out to grasp the acid injector
Yet there are still many that have been swallowed, and those cells that have been consumed can clearly feel their touch, but it is as if they have been frozen by something, unable to move
The future
Lin's community began to grow continuously, and when the population exceeded 1,000, the field of vision of Lin's observer cells could hardly accommodate them all.
As the green cells approached, the amoeba suddenly reacted, with its body surface protruding numerous tentacle-like structures that reached out towards the green cells
The action of rotation was discovered by Lin by chance. This method allows for faster cutting of food, and some cells that rotated excessively even evolved a few oval fins at their posterior ends to aid in accelerating the rotation
The body of the amoeba presents a faint gray color, with high transparency, allowing Lin to observe what is happening with these green cells inside the amoeba
So fast
However, why must one attack as soon as they encounter other beings
Lin could not have imagined these numbers before, but now, with the growth of the community, the information that comes to mind has increased significantly.
The cells were seen being concentrated at a single point within the amoeba, very close to a black circular object, which was likely the nucleus of the amoeba. Then, the bodies of these green cells began to slowly shrink, eventually disappearing.
Lin is somewhat curious about this perceptual ability. The amoeba clearly lacks vision; otherwise, it would have seen this side long ago. So how does it know the location of food? It is evident that it does not rely on touch, as it already knew the green cells were approaching before making contact with them.
The amoeba did not remain idle; upon discovering that the opponent would retaliate, it concentrated all its small tentacles into several large ones. These tentacles, when in contact with the dissolving solution, would still decay, but they would not be completely dissolved all at once.
A massive, blue object lies on a vast white plain made up of food, and this object appears to be alive, its body constantly shifting.
Lin has a desire to acquire this ability, after all, it is still unable to produce more observers.
However, its movement did not cause any damage to the food beneath it. Lin concluded that it was likely not feeding, and this creature had a very strange appearance. Its body seemed to lack a fixed shape and was constantly changing, ... just like ...
At this moment, Lin's second offensive maneuver was initiated
No, rather than saying that it extends its tentacles and *illustrates* its needs, it is more accurate to say that it transforms a part of its body into tentacles
Lin has only one thought regarding the speed of the amoeba: the enormous body of the amoeba, constantly moving forward, is much faster than the swimming speed of Lin's cells
It seems to have been digested However, Lin cannot tell what has digested them
Amoeba
It is composed of three hundred conical cells, which continuously drill holes in the food. Their 'cones' have become quite sharp, allowing them to easily penetrate even those parts of the food with high hardness that previously could only be dissolved by a solvent.
Lin continued to observe the constantly moving amoeba, and suddenly she noticed that some small objects were slowly swimming over from a short distance away.
Lin does not understand
These ordinary cells will gradually evolve into diggers due to their mode of feeding, ultimately lacking any vision.
However, what else can be done without attacking
However ... ... continue the attack
The outer layer of the amoeba has been sliced into countless fragments by these cells, yet it does not retreat; instead, it extends its tentacles using the old method, attempting to engulf the cells that are boring into its body
Lin's cells began to incessantly engulf the enormous food, starting from the area around the holes they had excavated. The acidifiers continuously dissolved a large amount of food, while the remaining cells engaged in digging, chopping, and tearing, employing every possible method to consume the food as quickly as possible
Nearly half of the acid injectors have been consumed, and only a little over two hundred cone cells remain
This time, Lin even caused the diggers to stop eating and join in the battle against the amoebas
Just as Lin was in distress, a special object appeared again in its field of vision
Slime
As the tentacles approached, the acid-spraying creature erupted a large amount of dissolving liquid from its conical mouth. The amoeba's tentacles immediately reacted with decay upon contact with the dissolving liquid, as if it felt pain, retracting its tentacles.
Speaking of which, when one's own cells digest food, it is also like this; the food mysteriously shrinks and disappears within the body, and Lin cannot discern what is at work in the digestion of the food.
Lin does not intend to escape, having already undergone numerous battles, its cellular community is now quite strong
The previous anomalous cells also reacted to nearby objects
Escape? Counterattack?
Relying on its large tentacles, the amoeba captured several acid injectors and drew them into its body. Although the liquid from the acid injectors caused some damage to the amoeba's interior, it appeared to be of no major concern
Lin did not know why this word came to her mind, but in the next moment, she found a more standard name
